Juventus Eye Nuno Tavares to Strengthen the Left Flank

Start

Juventus continue to work on reinforcing its squad ahead of the upcoming Club World Cup, with a particular focus on addressing weaknesses exposed by injuries last season. Corriere dello Sport (as quoted by IlBianconero) report that as manager Igor Tudor seeks to implement his tactical vision, the club is actively searching for players who fit his preferred system, especially at wingback.

Nuno Tavares: A Tactical Fit for Tudor

Tuttosport report (as quoted by IlBianconero) how Nuno Tavares, recently signed by Lazio from Arsenal on a permanent deal, has emerged as a prime target for Juventus. The Portuguese left-back impressed during his loan spell at Lazio, contributing nine assists in 30 appearances. His attacking prowess and ability to provide width make him a strong candidate for Tudor’s 3-4-2-1 or 3-5-2 formations, both of which rely heavily on dynamic wingbacks.

Lazio’s Position and Transfer Dynamics

Lazio secured Tavares for €5 million, but the club is reportedly open to offers for the player, with an asking price in the region of €11 million. While Tavares’s offensive qualities are well regarded, his season was also marked by several injury setbacks, raising some concerns about his reliability over a long campaign. Nonetheless, his profile remains attractive to Juventus, who are looking to add specialist options on the left side.

Competition and Alternatives

Juventus face competition from Premier League clubs such as Everton and Fulham, both of which are monitoring Tavares’s situation closely. Meanwhile, Lazio is also considering other options for their left flank, which could facilitate Tavares’s departure if a suitable offer arrives.

Should negotiations with Lazio prove challenging, Juventus has identified alternatives including Gutierrez, Fran Garcia, and Dodo of Fiorentina as potential targets for the wingback position.
