Juventus Look To Hjulmand as Douglas Luiz Nears Exit

Juventus are actively reshaping their squad this summer, and midfield changes are at the forefront as the club prepares for a busy transfer window. With Jonathan David’s arrival all but finalized, attention has now shifted to potential departures and reinforcements—most notably involving Douglas Luiz and Morten Hjulmand.

Douglas Luiz Set for Premier League Return?

Tuttosport report (as quoted by IlBianconero) that after just one season in Turin, Douglas Luiz appears to be on his way out. The Brazilian midfielder has struggled to make an impact at Juventus, hampered by injuries and limited playing time. He managed less than 1,000 minutes on the pitch and failed to register a goal or assist, leading to a disappointing campaign.

Leeds United, newly promoted to the Premier League, have emerged as the most active suitor for Luiz. The English club has already initiated talks with the player’s representatives and is pushing for a transfer that could materialize in the coming weeks. Juventus, while not desperate to sell, sees Luiz’s departure as an opportunity to free up salary space and recoup some of the €50 million spent on his arrival from Aston Villa. Other Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, have also shown interest, but Leeds currently leads the race for his signature.

Hjulmand Targeted as Replacement

Should Douglas Luiz depart, Juventus has identified Morten Hjulmand of Sporting CP as a prime replacement. The Danish midfielder, who joined Sporting from Lecce in 2023, has continued to impress and remains on Juventus’ radar. The club had previously considered him before his move to Portugal and is now revisiting the option as they look to reinforce their midfield.

Sporting, however, values Hjulmand highly and is reportedly asking for €40 million—a figure Juventus may only be able to meet if they secure funds from outgoing transfers like Luiz. Hjulmand’s profile fits the needs of coach Igor Tudor, who is keen to implement his ideas and refresh the squad after a season of transition.
