Adzic

Jovetic on Adzic: “When he shoots, he reminds me of Lampard – he’s a double-figure player”

Stevan Jovetic, former striker for Fiorentina and Manchester City, has praised Juventus’ young talent Vasilije Adzic after his stunning goal against Inter, speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport (as quoted by ilbianconero) . For many, the wonder strike was a sudden revelation, but to Jovetic – his Montenegro national teammate – it was anything but a surprise.

A Connection Through Montenegro

“We met a couple of years ago when I was without a club. For a while, I trained with Buducnost Podgorica, then we found ourselves together again in the national team,” Jovetic explained.

The pair have maintained contact, and after the Derby d’Italia goal, Jovetic reached out straight away. “We spoke after the goal. I told him he deserved such a joy, but that goal must only be the beginning. Last year I advised him to go and play with the Next Gen to regain rhythm and learn Italian properly. He’s a smart boy,” he added.

The Lampard Comparison

While he is reluctant to make comparisons, Jovetic admitted Adzic’s striking technique reminded him of a Premier League legend.

“I don’t like comparisons, but in the way he shoots he reminds me of Lampard. Adzic manages to put strength and power into his shot without taking a run-up. Do you remember the goal against Inter? Just half a step and… boom, into the net. You don’t see many players like that.”

Between Savicevic and Vucinic

Montenegro has produced its share of attacking gems, and Jovetic knows the heritage well.

“Savicevic, ‘the Genius’, is unreachable for everyone, and Mirko Vucinic was very strong. Adzic will make his career at the highest level. The future is his. Last year he was slowed down by injuries. As for free-kicks, he takes them better than me,” he admitted with a smile.

Role and Potential

Jovetic sees Adzic as a versatile talent in midfield.

“Somewhere between an 8 and a 10: he has the physique, the technique, and excellent timing making runs forward. It’s great to see a Montenegrin player in a top Italian club.”

And when asked about his long-term potential, Jovetic’s confidence was clear.

“We’re talking about a double-figure player, but for this season, finishing with five or six goals would already be a good result. He needs to follow Tudor to grow tactically and defensively.”
