Alessandro Del Piero, Laureus Academy member, at the 25th Laureus World Sports Awards.

Del Piero: “Tudor wasn’t the first choice and hasn’t yet found his starting eleven”

Alessandro Del Piero, former Juventus captain and number 10, offered a frank assessment of his old club’s current struggles following their 1–0 defeat to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu. The Champions League clash, decided by a second‑half strike from Jude Bellingham, saw Juventus fall short once again on the European stage.

Present at the match as a CBS correspondent, Del Piero reflected on Juventus’ uncertain direction under Igor Tudor, acknowledging the turbulence surrounding the team in recent months.

“The club is searching for something — it’s still not clear what,” Del Piero said (via Calciomercato). “There have been a lot of changes; we all know what happened at the end of last season and during the summer. Tudor, honestly, wasn’t the first choice — everyone knows that.”

The Juventus legend stressed that the manager is facing a difficult rebuild following a period of instability. “New players have arrived, and the team came from a disastrous situation both on and off the pitch,” he continued. “There’s constantly something not quite right at Juventus. Tudor is trying to do his best, but he hasn’t yet found a starting eleven. He has plenty of options to try to involve everyone, but an identity hasn’t been created yet — and that’s what’s missing right now.”
