OFFICIAL: Douglas Luiz Returns to Aston Villa

Douglas Luiz is officially back at Aston Villa. The Brazilian midfielder, who was on loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus, has sealed a return to Birmingham and rejoined the club where he previously played between 2019 and 2024.

The 27-year-old leaves Forest after just six months, having struggled to find consistency in a side battling near the lower end of the Premier League table. Juventus, who own the player’s rights until June 2028, have agreed to send Luiz back to Aston Villa on a paid loan worth €2 million until the end of the 2025/26 season.

According to the deal, Villa have secured an option to make the move permanent for €25 million, with a further €3.5 million in potential bonuses linked to performance objectives. The buy option can be triggered once the season concludes.

In an official statement, Juventus confirmed the details of the transaction, noting that Luiz had returned from his Nottingham Forest loan before signing the temporary deal with Aston Villa. The club also outlined the financial terms, including the three-installment payment structure for a potential permanent transfer.

Luiz originally joined Juventus in the summer of 2024 for €50 million plus €1.5 million in add-ons. However, his time in Turin proved difficult. The midfielder made only eight Serie A appearances—completing a full 90 minutes in just two matches—after being hampered by a muscle injury and struggling to adapt to Italian football’s tactical demands.
