Lucumí

Juventus Eye Bologna’s Jhon Lucumí as Defensive Search Widens

Juventus’s pursuit of defensive reinforcements has taken a new turn, with Sky Sport reporting that the bianconeri have turned their attention to Bologna’s Colombian centre-back Jhon Lucumí — making him the latest player to enter the club’s crosshairs as they simultaneously pursue a goalkeeper and a striker.

Who Is Lucumí and Why Does He Appeal?

Born in 1998, Lucumí joined Bologna from Belgian club Genk in the summer of 2022 and has since made 152 appearances for the Emilian side, contributing two goals and four assists while winning the Coppa Italia in 2025. A commanding, left-footed centre-back, he fits the profile Juventus have been seeking to complement their backline — exactly the type of ball-playing, left-sided defender that the club identified as a priority earlier in the window.

He is contracted at Bologna until June 2027, earning just under €1 million net per year, with a release clause set at €28 million. By the standards of the current market, that represents genuinely accessible territory for a club of Juventus’s stature — and the relatively modest wages would sit comfortably within Spalletti’s squad structure.

Competition for His Signature

Sky Sport Italia report how Juventus are not alone in their interest. Bournemouth from the Premier League and Besiktas — managed by Vincenzo Italiano — are also reported to be tracking the Colombian international. The World Cup could prove decisive: Lucumí is currently representing Colombia in the tournament, and a strong individual showing could quickly elevate the competition for his signature.

The Bigger Picture: A Left-Sided Centre-Back Is Essential

The Lucumí link makes considerable sense in the context of Juventus’s broader defensive planning. With Gleison Bremer a potential departure — Tottenham’s interest remains serious — and the club’s other centre-backs either ageing or lacking left-footed balance, the need for a reliable option on that side of the defence is urgent. At €28 million with a clear release mechanism, Lucumí offers a solution that is both technically sound and financially viable. Expect this one to develop quickly.
