Cambiaso for Sale: Barcelona and Chelsea Circle as Juventus Set Their Price and Identify Replacements

Andrea Cambiaso is set to become one of the defining transfer stories of the summer, with Juventus ready to sell and two of Europe’s biggest clubs — Barcelona and Chelsea — competing for his signature. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus are actively looking to raise funds and have identified Cambiaso as one of their most saleable assets, valuing him at approximately €40 million.

Why Juventus Are Ready to Sell

Juventus do not consider Cambiaso untouchable and would be willing to entertain offers they regard as appropriate. With the club under pressure to generate €100 million in capital gains by June 2027 as part of their UEFA Settlement Agreement obligations, and with Cambiaso contracted until 2029, a sale this summer would represent both clean accounting and significant financial relief.

Chelsea Lead the Chase — with Xabi Alonso’s Personal Backing

Barcelona made the first move, sending scouts to monitor Cambiaso over recent months — but the situation has evolved rapidly due to Chelsea’s position. The possible departure of Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid would leave the Blues needing a left-sided replacement at the highest level, and according to reports from England, Cambiaso is particularly valued by Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso, who sees him as an ideal profile for the role. That personal endorsement from a manager of Alonso’s standing significantly strengthens Chelsea’s hand in what is becoming a genuine three-way contest.

Barcelona entered the race after Chelsea’s interest accelerated, identifying Cambiaso as a versatile, technically refined option who could operate across the defensive line.

Who Would Replace Him?

With Cambiaso’s likely departure creating a void on the left flank, Juventus have already begun identifying potential replacements. Atletico Madrid’s Matteo Ruggeri remains the leading candidate — a deal that has been discussed in the context of the broader negotiations between the two clubs over Sorloth and Nico González. Destiny Udogie of Tottenham is another name under active consideration, while Fiorentina’s interest in Ruggeri could complicate that particular pursuit.

A Deal That Could Unlock the Window

On the incoming front, Spalletti has identified two absolute priorities to complete his squad: a new goalkeeper and a leading striker. The Cambiaso sale, if completed at or around the €40 million mark, would provide meaningful funding towards both. In a summer defined by Juventus’s need to sell before they can buy, Cambiaso’s transfer could prove to be the deal that unlocks everything else.
