In what appears to be a late and calculated intervention, Juventus have made a sounding for Costantino Favasuli — the Catanzaro right-back who has been one of Serie A’s most talked-about young talents all summer. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus have run a check on the 22-year-old, with the move potentially serving as an act of disruption towards Napoli, with whom Juventus will compete directly for Champions League places next season.
Who Is Favasuli — and Why Everyone Wants Him
Costantino Favasuli, born in Reggio Calabria on 26 April 2004, developed through Fiorentina’s academy before joining Catanzaro last summer on a permanent basis — with the Viola retaining a 50% sell-on clause. In his first season in Calabria he made 41 appearances across all competitions, contributing 2 goals and 9 assists whilst establishing himself as one of the most consistent performers in Serie B. He has since been called up to both the Italy Under-21 and the senior national squad under caretaker manager Silvio Baldini.
His recent change of agent — moving to the agency of Mario Giuffredi, who also represents Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo — has significantly altered the dynamics of his transfer, effectively cooling a long-standing agreement with Sassuolo and opening a clearer path to Naples.
Napoli Are Ahead — the Deal Is Almost Done
Favasuli has reached a broad personal agreement with Napoli on a five-year contract until 2031 at €600,000 per season — with an option for a further year. The fee agreed between Catanzaro and Napoli is approximately €8 million, of which 50% will flow back to Fiorentina through their sell-on clause.
He is set to arrive at Napoli in the role of backup to Giovanni Di Lorenzo — providing cover and competition for the first-choice right-back whilst developing under Massimiliano Allegri.
Juventus’s Move: Genuine Interest or Tactical Disruption?
Whether Juventus’s enquiry represents genuine intent or a calculated attempt to complicate Napoli’s business remains to be seen. The club would need to move very quickly and offer terms sufficiently better than those already agreed with Napoli — a tall order given how far advanced those negotiations are.
With Zeki Çelik already secured as their right-back, Juventus’s positional need for Favasuli is not obvious. The most plausible reading of their approach is strategic: keeping a close eye on a talent who could yet become relevant, whilst also creating a degree of uncertainty that complicates Napoli’s planning in the final days of a pivotal window.
