Serie A | Genoa 2-0 Juventus: Player Ratings

Genoa v Juventus

Juventus slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Genoa on Wednesday night, with Kingsley Ehizibue and Tommaso Baldanzi scoring two early goals at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris to leave the Bianconeri eighth in Serie A on 14 points. It was Juve’s third league defeat in nine games, and Genoa’s first win over them since 2022. Here’s how every Juventus player rated.

Spalletti was missing eight players through injury, including Yildiz, Thuram, Locatelli, Nico González, Çelik and Conceição, and made one change to the side that won at Lecce, dropping Woltemade for Alajbegović alongside Kolo Muani. Gatti’s early back-pass almost let Genoa in, and Juve then went behind after 12 minutes when Baldanzi’s low delivery from the left reached Ehizibue at the back post, with Cambiaso’s attempted clearance only making it worse. Juve failed to heed the warning and conceded a very similar goal on 28 minutes, when Kalulu’s clumsy clearance allowed Vitinha to steal the ball and set up Baldanzi. Kalulu had the best chance to pull one back just before the interval, but turned a McKennie pass wide from 12 yards. Woltemade and Zhegrova came on for the restart, but a heavy first touch from Kolo Muani wasted Juve’s best chance of the second half, and the visitors rarely looked like getting back into it. Zhegrova’s deflected shot forced a tricky save from Bijlow, and Koopmeiners’ stoppage-time free kick took a deflection and struck the underside of the bar, but Genoa held on. Juve had 63% possession and 17 shots to Genoa’s 14, but created very little of real quality.

Juventus

Vicario: Had little chance with either goal, but wasn’t helped by the defensive errors in front of him. 5.5/10

Gatti: His early back-pass nearly caused a disaster, and he looked uncomfortable before being withdrawn at half-time. 4.5/10

Bremer: Part of a defence that was repeatedly caught out on the counter, and sent a glancing header over the bar from a corner. 5.0/10

Lucumì: Unable to prevent Genoa’s quick breaks as the back three struggled to cope with the counter-attacks. 5.0/10

Kalulu: Had a day to forget, with a clumsy clearance leading to Genoa’s second goal, and then missing a golden chance to pull one back before the break. 4.0/10

Cambiaso: His attempted clearance deflected Ehizibue’s shot past Vicario for the opener, and he made little impact going forward before being replaced after 59 minutes. 4.5/10

Douglas Luiz: A subdued display in midfield after his heroics at Lecce, and he was replaced by Koopmeiners on 77 minutes. 5.0/10

Sarr: Struggled to bring control to the midfield and was replaced in the second half. 5.0/10

⭐McKennie: Juve’s most creative player, providing the pass for Kalulu’s missed chance before the break and slipping a through ball to Kolo Muani after it. 6.0/10

Alajbegović: Given a rare start in attack but never really got into the game, and was withdrawn at half-time. 5.0/10

Kolo Muani: Squandered Juve’s best chance of the second half with a heavy first touch on McKennie’s through ball, and offered little else. 4.5/10

Spalletti: His side were sluggish and open to the counter, conceding two similar goals in the first half, and the lack of urgency left him with little to build on. The result puts further pressure on a coach already under scrutiny. 4.0/10

Substitutions

Woltemade: Introduced at half-time to give Juve a more physical presence, but couldn’t find the quality to make a difference in a game that was already slipping away. 5.5/10

Zhegrova: Brought some life to the attack, with a deflected shot that forced a tricky save from Bijlow, but also gave the ball away for a Genoa counter. 5.5/10

Cabal: Came on after 59 minutes as Spalletti tried to alter things down the flank, but made little difference. 5.5/10

Boga: Introduced alongside Cabal, but couldn’t change the course of the game. 5.5/10

Koopmeiners: Introduced late on and came close with a stinging free kick that struck the underside of the bar via a deflection. 6.0/10
