Alessandro Del Piero: “Juventus Face a Titanic Task — Much Greater Than Inter’s”

From the Sky Sport studio, Alessandro Del Piero offered his thoughts on Inter’s Champions League elimination at the hands of Bodo/Glimt, before turning his attention to the monumental challenge that awaits Juventus against Galatasaray in Turin.

The former Juventus captain and Number 10 provided a balanced but pointed analysis of both Italian sides, highlighting what went wrong for Inter and what must go right for the Bianconeri.

“It all went wrong for Inter”

“Credit must go to Bodo — they played an exceptional match,” Del Piero began. “Their teamwork made the difference, along with their passion and desire for the game. On the other hand, Inter also share the responsibility — they did far too little. These games are won when you do something extra, beyond the average performance. Today, Inter played an average game. Often, when they play like that, they win — but this time, everything went wrong.”

Del Piero stressed that in such high-pressure European fixtures, merely performing to usual standards is not enough.

“You have to go above and beyond. You need to find something different from your routine,” he said. “There were 80,000 fans — it takes just a spark to ignite that stadium. There’s a real sense of disappointment when you think about both legs. It wasn’t a lifeless performance, but it lacked that extra spark, and that’s something that makes you reflect. It’s a shame because Inter had all the tools to go through.”

“Juventus have a titanic challenge ahead”

Turning to Juventus, Del Piero did not downplay the scale of the task facing them in the Champions League playoff second leg against Galatasaray.

“Juventus face a titanic challenge — a much bigger one than Inter’s,” he admitted. “I think they need to respond with pride and win the match by producing a superior performance. They need to give themselves some answers, especially after losing several recent games. They need a spark to change the trend, because qualifying tomorrow will be incredibly difficult — even though we’re all hoping for it.”
