Massimiliano Allegri was recently sighted in Turin, but contrary to speculation, this doesn’t signal an imminent return to Juventus. Instead, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the currently unemployed coach met with Fabio Paratici and other mutual acquaintances at a city centre venue a couple of weeks ago. The gathering was casual – sharing a glass of wine and discussing football, reminiscing about their successful tenure at Juventus from 2014 to 2019, during which they amassed five Serie A titles, four Coppa Italia trophies, and two Italian Super Cups.
This reunion has fuelled speculation about the duo potentially working together again, but this time at AC Milan. The Rossoneri are in the market for a new sporting director, with Paratici’s name featuring prominently on their shortlist alongside Igli Tare and Tony D’Amico. Given the uncertainty surrounding Sergio Conceicao’s future at Milan, Allegri has emerged as a serious contender for the managerial position.
While Allegri and Paratici haven’t directly discussed the Milan opportunity, there are indications that wheels are in motion. Giorgio Furlani, Milan’s CEO, recently reached out to Allegri through a mutual friend. Sources suggest this was more of a cordial greeting than a business call, but it has established a potentially crucial connection for the future.
Allegri’s career moves often begin with a phone call. He famously recounted his return to Juventus in July 2021: “Other clubs approached me, but in the morning I woke up at 8:00, called Andrea Agnelli and said, ‘See you tonight’.” This anecdote raises the possibility of another comeback, this time at Milan, where Allegri could reunite with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a partnership that proved successful 15 years ago.
