Former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi has offered his take on Juventus’ strong start to the season under Luciano Spalletti, suggesting that the Bianconeri have what it takes to mount a serious title challenge.
Speaking on Sky Calcio Club (as quoted by IlBianconero) on Sunday evening, Bergomi admitted that Juventus were initially the team that left him with the most doubts. “It’s the only team that always left me with doubts,” he said. “I saw good potential, something that could allow them to show us something different. I’m waiting for further confirmation, but Juventus have faced two similar teams who defend man-to-man. Juventus have the right players to trouble sides built like that, players such as Conceicao and Yildiz. Spalletti studied them well, and I really liked Juventus. I don’t know how far they can go, I’ll wait, but after six matches they’re only four points from the top — of course they can fight for the Scudetto.”
“Never had doubts about Yildiz”
Bergomi was full of praise for Kenan Yildiz, describing the Turkish forward as one of Juventus’ most exciting talents. “I never had doubts about his technical qualities and his way of playing, which I like a lot,” he said. “He can beat his man despite being 1.85 metres tall, and he helps out in defence. When you involve him, he makes the difference. Even on less brilliant days, I calculate the level of danger a player brings, and when someone has Yildiz on the pitch, I’m always a bit worried — he can always invent something, just like Leao.”
