Gleison Bremer is ready to return to action — and will do so as soon as Sunday evening when Juventus face Bologna away from home. The Brazilian centre-back is set to reclaim his place at the heart of the Bianconeri defence for the 15th round of Serie A action.
Calciomercato report how Bremer had already been called up for the recent Champions League clash against Pafos but remained on the bench as a precaution. Now, however, he is fully fit and expected to start, marking the end of a difficult recovery period.
From Surgery to Recovery
The 28-year-old underwent surgery in mid-October to repair a medial meniscus injury in his left knee — the same one that had previously required an operation. The procedure, a selective arthroscopic meniscectomy performed in Lyon on 14 October, was successful, but his rehabilitation took slightly longer than initially anticipated.
Juventus’s medical and technical staff opted for a cautious approach to minimise the risk of relapse. Bremer has not played since the league match against Atalanta on 27 September, making his comeback a key moment for both player and team.
Spalletti’s Tactical Dilemma
Bremer’s return could have significant tactical implications. Luciano Spalletti may opt to switch Juventus to a four-man defence — a system briefly tested in the second half of the Pafos match. The coach hinted at his intentions afterwards, explaining that he hoped to settle on a final structure once he had a right-footed central defender available.
Without Bremer, Spalletti’s options were limited, forcing Kelly and Koopmeiners to occupy uncomfortable positions on the right and left sides of defence. Now, with Bremer back alongside Federico Gatti, Spalletti finally has the balance he has been seeking.
A return to the 4-2-3-1 formation could therefore be on the horizon — one that not only strengthens Juventus defensively but also enhances their attacking transitions. All eyes will be on Bologna, where Bremer’s presence might just mark a turning point in Spalletti’s evolving Juventus project.
