Buffon Defends Thiago Motta: “Let’s Wait, Something Surprising Could Still Happen”

Gianluigi Buffon, the former goalkeeper for Juventus, Parma, and the Italian national team, now serving as the head of delegation for the Azzurri, recently shared his thoughts on Juventus’ future and his former national team colleague Thiago Motta. Speaking at an event with students at the LUISS Business School in Rome, the legendary goalkeeper offered a defence of the current Juventus manager, urging patience to see what results might come in the final 10 matches of the season.

Buffon addressed the speculation surrounding Motta’s position at Juventus, stating, “Is Thiago Motta at risk? There are still 10 games left, things probably aren’t going as planned, but there are still 10 matches to go: it’s worth waiting to see if something surprising, and surprisingly positive, might happen in this final rush.”

This statement comes at a crucial time for Juventus, as the team’s performance under Motta has been under scrutiny. Buffon’s words suggest that he believes there’s still potential for a turnaround in the club’s fortunes before the season’s end.

The former goalkeeper also took the opportunity to discuss his current role with the Italian national team, expressing his enthusiasm for the position. “It’s something that excites me,” Buffon remarked. “Working with Coach Spalletti is a stroke of luck: he is a great professional and a perfectionist, as well as being one of the most generous people I have ever met in football.”

Buffon went on to share his personal philosophy regarding the qualities he values most in individuals within the sport. “I look for two characteristics in particular in a person: courage and generosity,” he explained, highlighting the attributes he considers essential for success in football and beyond.
