Dario Canovi, father of Alessandro Canovi — the agent representing Thiago Motta — has spoken out about Juventus’ recent struggles and reflected (as quoted by ilbianconero) on the club’s decision to part ways with the Italo-Brazilian coach.
In a period of renewed turbulence for the Bianconeri, Canovi has admitted he still disagrees with the club’s choice to dismiss Motta and appoint Igor Tudor instead. “Perhaps it would have been better to believe in Thiago Motta’s project,” he said, “rather than watch the type of football we’re seeing now, with Tudor initially hailed as the saviour of everything.”
“Tudor Not to Blame, the Squad Is”
Canovi, who remains close to Motta, clarified that the current issues are not solely the coach’s fault. “It’s not Tudor’s responsibility — it would be wrong to put the blame on him,” he explained. “The real problem lies with the team, which last season was already at the level of finishing fourth or fifth.”
He went on to praise Motta’s previous work in Turin, pointing out that under his guidance, Juventus at least displayed moments of quality. “With Thiago, there were a few matches where the team genuinely played well,” he continued. “But the overall structure of the squad has not changed, and the summer transfer market didn’t help either. In my opinion, the midfield needed strengthening. It didn’t feel like an exciting market at all.”
