Capello: “Hot Atmosphere in Istanbul, But Inter Face Greater Risk”

Former Juventus and England manager Fabio Capello has shared his thoughts on the Champions League playoff draw, which sees Juventus, Inter, and Atalanta discover their next opponents on the road to the last 16. Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Capello offered a detailed analysis of the Italian clubs’ challenges, focusing in particular on Juventus’ upcoming clash with Galatasaray.

“A Fiery Climate Awaits Juventus”

Commenting on the Bianconeri’s draw, Capello warned that playing in Istanbul will be no easy task:

“The atmosphere there is fiery — the fans generate incredible passion and focus. Galatasaray become a different team when they play at home. The first leg must be approached with great care; Juventus need to treat it as a real battle. It’s true there are familiar faces like Osimhen and Icardi, but it’s not a simple trip because the environment truly transforms the team.”

Despite the intimidating surroundings, Capello remains confident that Juventus will not crumble under pressure:

“Their legs won’t shake. If anything, a tough match like this forces players to stay focused and determined.”

“Greater Risk for Inter”

While cautioning Juventus about the Turkish side’s intensity, Capello suggested that another Italian giant might face an even trickier situation.

“I see more risk for Inter — mainly the danger of underestimating their opponents. Galatasaray, for example, offer more than just fight and passion fuelled by their crowd; they have real quality too. Everything must be done with full attention.”

“One Step at a Time”

When asked about potential future matchups, Capello advised teams to stay grounded rather than looking too far ahead:

“Liverpool or Tottenham in the round of 16? You’d better avoid the English sides — they score three goals wherever they play. But it’s pointless thinking about that now. The key will be how the Italian teams are in two weeks’ time — available players, suspensions, injuries — those factors will make all the difference.”
