Chiellini Poised for FIGC Role as Marotta Backs Carnevali

Start

Monday 3 November 2025 could mark an important step in Giorgio Chiellini’s evolution as a football executive — and a significant moment for his growing influence within Italian football’s institutional scene.

At 11:30 a.m. in Lissone, the Serie A assembly will convene to appoint a new representative to the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) board, following Francesco Calvo’s departure from Juventus to join Aston Villa in the Premier League. Among the names under consideration, Chiellini has emerged as the frontrunner to assume this high-profile and strategic position.

Chiellini the Favourite

Reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport suggest that Chiellini is the candidate designated for election. The 40-year-old, currently serving as Juventus’ director of institutional relations, is regarded as the club’s key ambassador within the football establishment and a natural choice to represent the Bianconeri’s interests at FIGC level.

His potential appointment would also honour an agreement reached earlier this year, which led to Ezio Maria Simonelli’s selection as president of Serie A. Within that framework, Juventus were expected to have a strong voice in federal matters — a role Chiellini now appears poised to fill.

Marotta’s Alternative: Carnevali

However, there remains a rival proposal from Inter’s president, Giuseppe Marotta, who is reportedly backing Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali as an alternative candidate. Carnevali, highly respected for his long tenure and calm leadership style, has gathered quiet but meaningful support among several clubs.

Despite this, most indications point toward Chiellini receiving the majority vote, continuing his rapid rise as a respected figure not only at Juventus but across the wider Italian football landscape.

If confirmed, his appointment would represent another decisive step in Juventus’ renewed institutional strategy — and cement Chiellini’s presence at the heart of Italy’s football governance.
