Chiellini: ‘We Hope to Enjoy a Good Christmas’ — The Former Juventus Captain Speaks About His New Role and the Roma Clash

Start

Giorgio Chiellini has spoken about his post‑retirement path and current work in football management, after being named Executive of the Year by the Italian Sports Journalists’ Union (USSI). The former Juventus and Italy defender shared insights on his career transition, his gratitude to Francesco Calvo, and the Bianconeri’s upcoming fixture against Roma.

“Management is the area that fascinates me most”

Chiellini ruled out any future as a coach or a player, reaffirming his interest in the administrative side of football. “I certainly won’t become a coach and I won’t return to playing,” he said. “What happens next can’t be predicted, but this is the area that fascinates me the most and it’s the one that has always interested me. I developed it through study and during the final years of my career. Football is my world, and the managerial area is what I prefer for life after retirement.”

“I thank Calvo for his contribution”

The former Juventus captain also expressed his appreciation for Francesco Calvo, who previously held his current position within the federation. “I must thank Francesco Calvo, who carried out this role before me. I believe this is a fundamental path to learn new things. I already know the dynamics, but experiencing them from the inside is something entirely different,” Chiellini explained. “I hope to bring more on‑field experience into a context where there’s little of it, helping to achieve some concrete improvements that Italian football needs.”

“We hope for a good Christmas”

Looking ahead to Juventus’ next Serie A match, Chiellini commented briefly on the clash with Roma. “We hope to enjoy a good Christmas — Saturday we face a very important match,” he said, highlighting the team’s desire to close the year positively.
