Costacurta: “Juventus Are Not Title Material, Other Teams Have Stronger Players”

Start

Can Juventus still fight their way back into the Serie A title race after their recent run of victories? According to former AC Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta, the answer is no.

Luciano Spalletti’s side recorded their third consecutive league win at the weekend, yet the result did not help them close the gap on the top three — Inter, Napoli, and Milan — who all earned victories as well. Juventus currently sit fourth in the table, awaiting Roma’s result against Genoa. But are the Bianconeri truly contenders for the Scudetto? Costacurta and fellow pundit Beppe Bergomi shared their views on Sky Calcio Club.

Costacurta: “Not Enough Quality to Win the League”

“For me, they are not a team capable of winning the Scudetto,” said Costacurta. “They don’t have players strong enough to win the championship. The other teams do — even though Juventus have a very good coach who is improving his players, that won’t be enough to win the league.”

His comments underline the belief that Juventus are still in a rebuilding phase, and while their form has improved, they may lack the individual quality seen in their rivals’ squads.

Bergomi: “Juventus Still Give Me Doubts, But They’re Growing”

Beppe Bergomi also offered a mixed assessment. Speaking about winger Edon Zhegrova’s display, he said: “Looking at the game, this lad can’t start yet. In the closing stages, he struggled with a key pass. But in today’s football, if you want players who can beat their man and counterattack, you need those kinds of characteristics.”

On Juventus’ title chances, Bergomi added: “Juventus always give me a lot of doubts, but they’re improving. They’ve found a settled lineup, Kelly is underrated, and if they can stay strong defensively, this team could become dangerous.”
