After Juventus’ 5–2 defeat against Galatasaray, Alessandro Del Piero offered a candid analysis of the team’s continuing struggles. Speaking live on Sky Sport, the former Bianconeri captain dissected the match and the broader issues affecting Luciano Spalletti’s side in Europe.
“Osimhen Scares You”
Del Piero began by praising Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, pointing to his decisive impact on the game. “Today Juventus are struggling to find the right players. Beyond comparisons — Osimhen being better than David or Icardi being better than Openda — what matters is what happens on the pitch. Osimhen scares you. His presence alone puts fear into opponents. He has aggression in front of goal, and quality too.”
The Nigerian forward’s energy and intensity, Del Piero suggested, highlighted what Juventus lacked in their performance — character and sharpness in decisive moments.
What Juventus Are Missing
The former Juve icon then turned his attention to the deeper structural issues limiting the team. “There are players with different characteristics, not only in personality but also in technique and overall quality. Juventus’ difficulties are evident — they’ve made glaring individual mistakes that drag the team down. But the main problem is their inability to change skin. Some matches are dirtier than others; you need different qualities to face them, and Juventus can’t make that switch. It was a match where you needed to play with the knife between your teeth, to throw the ball away if necessary — sometimes, that’s what matters.”
Del Piero’s comments mirrored what many fans and analysts have pointed out: Juventus lack adaptability, both tactically and mentally, when the match demands grit over style.
“A Revolution? It Depends…”
Finally, Del Piero reflected on whether Juventus need a major reset to return to competitiveness. “Do they need a new revolution? It depends on how the season ends. If they finish inside the Champions League spots, they’ll probably be able to plan the future with Spalletti — and that would be an important foundation. But they definitely need to make moves in the transfer market.”
