Federico Gatti sidelined: meniscus injury confirmed, surgery required

Start

Juventus have confirmed that defender Federico Gatti will undergo surgery following the knee injury sustained during the Coppa Italia last-16 clash against Udinese. The setback adds to the Bianconeri’s growing list of absentees, just days after Dusan Vlahovic’s own fitness concerns.

Gatti was forced off early in the second half after awkwardly planting his leg, immediately signalling discomfort. The 26-year-old underwent medical examinations at the J|Medical facility on Wednesday morning, where further tests revealed a medial meniscus injury in his right knee.

Surgery confirmed

In an official statement, Juventus explained that the severity of the injury requires an operation, scheduled to take place in the coming days. The situation mirrors that of Gleison Bremer, who underwent a similar procedure for a meniscus issue in mid-October.

Recovery time

While the injury is not as serious as an ACL rupture, the recovery process will still require patience and careful rehabilitation. Gatti is expected to be sidelined for around a month, though the exact timeframe will depend on his post-surgery progress. Barring any surprises, his 2025 is effectively over.

Matches he will miss

Gatti’s absence will be felt both by Juventus and by Italy manager Luciano Spalletti. The defender is set to miss key fixtures against Napoli, Pafos, Bologna, and Roma, and is likely to remain unavailable for the final match of the year against Pisa.
