Federico Gatti has successfully undergone surgery on his right knee, Juventus have confirmed. The defender was operated on this morning in Nantes after sustaining a serious injury during the Coppa Italia match against Udinese earlier this week.
According to the club’s official statement, the procedure was a selective arthroscopic meniscectomy on the medial meniscus of his right knee. The surgery was carried out by Dr Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet and Dr Loïc Geoffroy, with Juventus’ head of medical staff, Dr Luca Stefanini, also present at the Clinique Santé Atlantique. The operation was described as “perfectly successful”, and Gatti has already begun his rehabilitation programme.
What Happened to Gatti
The 26-year-old centre-back suffered a twisted knee during Tuesday’s clash with Udinese, forcing him off the pitch. Subsequent tests at J Medical revealed a lesion to the medial meniscus, making surgical intervention necessary.
Recovery Timeline
Gatti is expected to be sidelined for at least a month. Although his right knee had no previous issues — unlike team-mate Gleison Bremer, who has faced more complicated setbacks in the past — the club’s medical staff will adopt a cautious approach to avoid any risk of recurrence.
If recovery proceeds smoothly, Gatti could return to training in early January, giving Luciano Spalletti a valuable defensive option as Juventus enter a crucial stretch of the season.
