Yildiz

Gazzetta: ‘No Juventus Without Yildiz – The Turkish Jewel Who Defines the Bianconeri’

“Take everything from me, but not my Kenan Yildiz.” That famous advertising line could easily be the slogan for Juventus right now. La Gazzetta dello Sport write how the club’s dependence on its young star has grown match by match, as every performance strengthens the sense that there’s no Juventus without its number ten — elegant, decisive, and irreplaceable.

The final doubts melted away in the snow of Norway. Against Bodo/Glimt, Yildiz came off the bench after half-time and turned the entire game upside down. He didn’t score or record an assist, yet the impact was unmistakeable. Every attacking move carried his fingerprint, paving the way for goals from Lois Openda, Weston McKennie, and Jonathan David. Once again, whether on a perfect pitch or frozen synthetic turf, the 20-year-old from Regensburg proved to be the heartbeat of the team.

In little more than two years, he has evolved from a promising teenager into a leader and record-breaker. With 100 appearances already in black and white, he’s outpaced Juventus icons such as Alessandro Del Piero and Paul Pogba in terms of precocity. At just 20 and a half, he has achieved what many legends did only later in their careers.

The Contract Stalemate

Yet, despite his importance, Yildiz’s future in Turin remains uncertain. His current deal runs until 2029, but recent talks to extend it to 2030 have collapsed at the final stage. Negotiations are frozen, and while both sides insist on mutual goodwill, progress has stalled.

The issue, inevitably, is financial. Yildiz earns around €1.7 million plus bonuses, placing him only 19th in Juventus’s salary hierarchy. Understandably, he feels it’s time his wages reflected his status. His camp aims for a figure closer to the €6 million earned by Jonathan David, while Dusan Vlahovic leads the payroll with €12 million. The gap between offer and demand is roughly €1 million — but the standstill isn’t only about money.

Behind the scenes, there’s hope that club president John Elkann could personally intervene, given his fondness for the Turkish international. However, Juventus must also move quickly: Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Arsenal are all keeping a close eye on developments.

A Team Transformed

The numbers tell the story. With Yildiz on the pitch, Juventus win 44% of their games; without him, only 25%. Their scoring average rises from 1.0 goals per match to 1.6 when he plays, while defensive solidity improves as well — just one goal conceded per game compared to 1.5 without him.

Since 2023, Yildiz has scored 19 goals across all competitions, three of them this season, and has been instrumental in five goals in the Champions League alone. Among players born from 2005 onwards, only Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and PSG’s Désiré Doué have better numbers at continental level.

At 20 years and 205 days, Yildiz has already rewritten Juventus records: youngest scorer in the Champions League, youngest captain in the club’s history, and fastest player to reach 100 appearances. The calendar may now be heavier with fixtures than in the past, but his rise still feels extraordinary — a career of a natural-born star accelerating toward greatness.

Whether the renewal is unlocked or remains stuck, one thing is certain: Juventus are a different team with Kenan Yildiz. Without him, that magic number ten shirt feels empty.
