How Juventus Could Line Up Against Sporting: Spalletti Weighs His Options

Start

Champions League eve for Juventus, who host Sporting Lisbon at the Allianz Stadium on Tuesday night in the fourth round of the League Phase. After back-to-back draws against Borussia Dortmund and Villarreal, followed by a narrow defeat to Real Madrid, the Bianconeri are chasing their first European victory under Luciano Spalletti — a result that could redefine their continental journey.

Tomorrow’s fixture will also mark Spalletti’s home debut at the Allianz, and expectations are high for a statement performance.

Kelly Doubt Leaves Defence in Flux

IlBianconero report that defensive issues continue to plague Juventus. With Bremer and Cabal still sidelined through injury, Spalletti must also contend with lingering concerns over Lloyd Kelly, who missed the Cremona match due to muscle fatigue and remains doubtful for the clash with Sporting.

In light of that, Spalletti could once again rely on Teun Koopmeiners in defence, a tactical solution first tested against Cremonese. The Dutchman is expected to feature on the left side of a back three, joined by Gatti in the centre and Kalulu on the right.

McKennie or Conceição in the Midfield Battle

Manuel Locatelli and Khephren Thuram are expected to retain their places at the heart of midfield, while Filip Kostic and Andrea Cambiaso should again occupy the flanks. Further forward, the key question concerns the second attacking midfield slot next to Kenan Yildiz.

Weston McKennie started there in Cremona, but Francisco Conceição — who impressed off the bench — could be handed an opportunity from the start. The decision may come down to match tempo and athletic balance, with Spalletti evaluating both players up to the last training session.

Yildiz Set to Return

All eyes will be on Kenan Yildiz, who is expected to make his first appearance under Spalletti after being rested at the weekend. The young No.10, one of Juventus’ brightest talents, is ready to take centre stage on a night that could shape his and the club’s European campaign.

If Spalletti sticks with the 3-4-2-1 structure, Yildiz will occupy one of the two advanced midfield roles behind the striker — likely at the expense of Loïs Openda, who is tipped to move to the bench.

Vlahović Leads the Line

Up front, Dusan Vlahović remains the clear choice to spearhead the attack. In excellent form following a goal against Udinese and a commanding display versus Cremonese, the Serbian striker holds a strong advantage over Jonathan David for the starting spot.

With five goals already this season, Vlahović is Juventus’ top scorer and a central figure in Spalletti’s early plans. Contract discussions may remain unresolved, but his current performances are leaving no room for debate about his value on the pitch.
