Dean Huijsen, the young defender who was unceremoniously discarded by Juventus last summer, has quickly become one of the most sought-after talents in European football. After a loan spell at Roma from January to May 2024, Huijsen has caught the attention of several Premier League giants and earned his first call-up to the Spanish national team.
The 19-year-old’s rapid rise coincides with one of the most challenging periods in Juventus’ recent history. As Thiago Motta’s team struggles to secure a Champions League spot after heavy defeats to Atalanta and Fiorentina, Huijsen’s star continues to ascend at Bournemouth, where he’s competing for a Champions League place next season.
Reflecting on his departure from Juventus, Huijsen shared his disappointment with Marca: “Did Juventus treat me badly? Maybe. I went on loan to Roma, came back, and I can understand that they wanted to sell me or whatever the club needed last summer, but I arrived on the first day after the summer holidays, and they told me I had to go, but that they wouldn’t force me. They made me train alone and things like that. It was a bit ugly, especially because I had been there for three years, since the U17s, and I just wanted to have a chance with Juve’s first team.”
Despite this setback, Huijsen’s career has taken a positive turn. In a recent interview with Relevo, he addressed rumours linking him to Real Madrid: “For me, it’s an honor when I hear about Real Madrid’s interest. I’m proud that such an important and special club is interested in me.”
The young Spaniard’s release clause stands at €50 million, with Juventus retaining a 10% sell-on clause. As top clubs circle, it seems Juventus’ loss may become another European giant’s gain, with Real Madrid potentially leading the race for his signature.
