Sergio Aguero, the legendary Argentine striker, has opened up about a dramatic twist in his career that nearly saw him join Juventus before his iconic move to Manchester City. In a recent interview, Aguero shared the behind-the-scenes story of how close he came to wearing the black and white stripes of the Italian giants-and why the deal ultimately fell through.
Reflecting on the persistent rumours linking him to Real Madrid, Aguero clarified, “People always said I was going to sign for Real Madrid. But it was more political, between the clubs, than something real.” He emphasized that while the speculation was constant, a move to Madrid was never truly on the table.
Aguero then revealed just how close he was to joining Juventus before his famous transfer to Manchester City: “Before Manchester City, I had everything in place with Juventus. But then Miguel Ángel Gil was told that Real Madrid wanted me, and that’s where the whole City story began.”
He explained the factors that swayed his decision, saying, “I was really excited about playing in the Premier League. City were in the next Champions League, and Juventus hadn’t qualified. It turned out to be a great decision.”
Aguero summed up the saga by stating, “The truth is, before signing with City, I was one step away from Juventus, everything was set. In the end, I chose the English club because I wanted to try an experience in the Premier League and because they were going to play in the Champions League, which Juventus had not qualified for.”
