Jonathan David to Juventus: Decision Nears as Comolli Takes the Reins

Start

For months, Jonathan David has been one of the hottest names on the Italian transfer market. The Canadian striker, whose contract with Lille expires this June, has already bid farewell to the French club and is now a free agent, attracting interest from several top clubs. Among the most active suitors are Inter, Napoli, and Juventus, each making strong overtures to secure his signature.

Gazzetta dello Sport report (as quoted by IlBianconero) how, at Juventus, David has long been a priority target to bolster the attack. Under the previous management, led by Cristiano Giuntoli, negotiations with the player’s representatives were advanced, with Juventus positioning itself as a serious contender. The arrival of Damien Comolli as the new general manager, however, brings a fresh perspective to the process. Comolli inherits the groundwork laid by Giuntoli and now faces the task of making a final decision—potentially imminent—on whether to push forward with the deal for David.

The proposed contract for David at Juventus is significant: a five-year agreement worth €6 million per season, plus €2 million in bonuses. This substantial package reflects the reality of the current market, where top free agents command high wages and signing bonuses. Despite the competition from Inter and Napoli, Juventus appear to have found common ground with David’s camp, thanks to the efforts of the outgoing management.

Inter, the first Italian club to make concrete moves for David, are currently focused on resolving its coaching situation following Simone Inzaghi’s departure, and has started looking at alternative targets like Rasmus Hojlund. Napoli, which seemed close to finalizing a deal in recent days, may now pivot to other options—such as Parma’s Bonny, a favorite of coach Antonio Conte—leaving the path potentially clearer for Juventus.

Ultimately, the final call rests with Damien Comolli. With rival clubs shifting their attention elsewhere, Juventus could be in a strong position to secure David’s signature, provided Comolli gives the green light. The coming days will be crucial as Juventus looks to reinforce its attack and make a statement in the transfer market.
