Alessandro Del Piero, the legendary former captain and number 10 of Juventus, attended the press conference (as quoted by Calciomercato) for the 23rd Memorial Niccolò Galli in Florence, where he shared his thoughts on Juventus’ dramatic and unpredictable season.
A Season Like No Other
Del Piero did not mince words when describing the campaign: “Juve are fighting for the Champions League, and honestly, a bit of everything has happened this year, a very anomalous year.” His candid assessment reflects the rollercoaster of emotions and events that have defined Juventus’ journey, from on-field battles to off-field challenges.
Hopes for the Final Push
With the season reaching its climax, Del Piero expressed his personal hopes for the club he still holds dear: “Obviously, from the point of view of the affection I have, I hope that on Sunday they manage to win in Venice or, in any case, that they qualify for the Champions League.” He added a personal touch, referencing his roots: “I am from Veneto, so everything that is Veneto interests me emotionally as well, but the important thing is that they manage to go to the Champions League.”
The Drama of Serie A
Del Piero highlighted the intensity and unpredictability of the league’s final weekend: “Arriving at a Sunday like this will make many people’s hearts race; in the end, many will rejoice and others will not. But it’s beautiful, it’s beautiful because it makes everything so much on a knife-edge, and I think that’s a positive thing for the whole football movement.” He praised the excitement generated by the close competition and the emotional highs and lows that come with it.
A Memorable Coppa Italia and Italian Football’s Progress
Reflecting on the broader Italian football scene, Del Piero pointed to Bologna’s remarkable Coppa Italia run: “We saw an unusual and emotionally very beautiful Coppa Italia final because Bologna is on an extraordinary journey, and winning-not just appearing in a final 51 years later, but winning-made a lot of people smile, I have to say.”
He also celebrated the achievements of other Italian clubs: “Then we have Inter in the Champions League final, Fiorentina who reached the Conference semifinal. Even this year, despite the gap we have compared to other leagues, there are some beautiful, positive signs to underline, and let’s hope this continues next year as well.”
