Juventus and Dusan Vlahovic: What Contract Termination Would Mean for the Club’s Finances

Start

Juventus are facing a critical juncture with Dusan Vlahovic, as the relationship between the club and the Serbian striker has deteriorated significantly. Vlahovic, whose contract runs until June 2026, has rejected both a wage reduction and offers from other clubs, including Fenerbahce and Al Hilal. The situation has become a pressing issue for Juventus, who are eager to resolve the matter before it further impacts their sporting and financial plans.

Why Juventus Want to End the Vlahovic Chapter

IlBianconero report that there are two main reasons Juventus is seeking to part ways with Vlahovic:

  • The club wants to avoid keeping an unhappy, high-profile player who is no longer part of their future plans.

  • Most importantly, Juventus needs to shed the substantial annual cost associated with Vlahovic, which totals around 40 million euros when factoring in salary and amortization.

Vlahovic’s salary alone is set to reach 12 million euros next season, making him the highest-paid player in Serie A. Despite attempts to renegotiate his contract on reduced terms, Vlahovic and his representatives have refused, leaving Juventus with limited options.

The Option of Contract Termination

Given the difficulties in selling Vlahovic—largely due to his high wages and his own resistance to a move—Juventus are now seriously considering a mutual termination of his contract. This would immediately remove his salary from the club’s wage bill and free up resources for new signings. However, this solution comes with its own set of financial consequences.

Financial Impact on Juventus

If Juventus and Vlahovic were to agree on a contract termination, the club would avoid paying his hefty salary for the remaining duration of his contract. However, there would be a significant downside: the club would be forced to register a substantial capital loss on its balance sheet, estimated at around 19 million euros. This figure represents the remaining book value of Vlahovic’s transfer fee, which Juventus had hoped to recoup through a sale.

Moreover, reports indicate that Vlahovic’s entourage has demanded a severance package of 10 million euros to agree to the termination, split equally between the player and his agents. This additional cost makes the solution far from ideal for Juventus, but it is being considered as a way to finally resolve the standoff.

What Happens Next?

A meeting between Juventus and Vlahovic’s representatives is expected soon, where the possibility of contract termination will be formally discussed. The club faces a difficult choice: accept a financial loss to quickly resolve the situation, or risk keeping a dissatisfied player on the payroll, potentially sidelining him and further complicating their transfer strategy.

The outcome will depend on Vlahovic’s willingness to accept the terms and Juventus’s determination to move forward, even at a financial cost.
