Lecce sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has addressed growing speculation about defender Tiago Gabriel’s future amid reported interest from Juventus. The young Portuguese centre-back, born in 2004, has impressed in his debut season with the Salento club, catching the eye with his composure and maturity.
Over the past week, several reports have linked Juventus with a potential move for Tiago Gabriel in future transfer windows. Speaking to Tuttosport, Corvino provided clarity on the situation and praised the youngster’s growth and importance to Lecce.
“Tiago Gabriel Appeals to Many, Not Just Juventus”
“Tiago Gabriel appeals to many clubs, not just Juventus,” Corvino explained. “He’s a strong player, and we’ve had both patience and luck with his development. But let me be clear: this year he’s staying here. He’s too important for our goals, and we can’t afford to lose focus on him.”
The Lecce director’s words underline the club’s intention to keep hold of the talented defender, at least until the end of the season, as they continue their project in Serie A.
Lecce and Juventus Share a Sustainable Vision
When asked about comparisons between Lecce’s sustainable model and Juventus’s recent restructuring, Corvino offered a balanced perspective:
“We’re not here to teach anyone; our statuses are different. But I’m pleased that Juventus are also pursuing this kind of objective. President Sticchi Damiani and I began this journey back in 2020. It’s not easy for fans to understand the process, so we must be good at communicating and telling the story behind our project.”
From Luca Toni to Dusan Vlahovic
Reflecting on some of his most successful transfers, Corvino said: “I’ll start with Luca Toni and finish with Dusan Vlahovic, even though I’ll be doing a disservice to many others.”
He also reserved words of admiration for Vlahovic, the Juventus striker he helped launch during his Fiorentina days: “Dusan is exceptional; there are very few like him across Europe.”
Praise for Spalletti
Speaking about Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti, Corvino added: “Anyone who knows how to win in Serie A can succeed anywhere. It’s never easy to impose yourself at Juventus, but if there’s one man who can do it, it’s Spalletti.”
