Spalletti

Juventus at a Crossroads: Finding Direction Amid Doubts

Start

Juventus remain trapped in a haze of mediocrity, struggling to rediscover an identity capable of lifting them back among Italy’s elite. IlBianconero write how the draw against Fiorentina laid bare the issues Luciano Spalletti must confront, confirming that the work ahead is vast — and extends across every level of the club.

The result in Florence was a mirror of recent outings: flashes of determination but ultimately the same shortcomings that have defined much of the campaign. The early energy and defiance seen under Spalletti — and briefly in the brief interim spell under Brambilla — now feel like a distant illusion. The question is legitimate: was that surge just a momentary spark? Is this Juventus, flat and inconsistent, the real one?

The truth remains uncertain. Spalletti’s era is only beginning, and real judgement can come only through continuity. Yet it is already clear that sooner or later something must ignite to push this project off the ground.

Raising the Standard

“We were too predictable in the first half and made too many technical errors,” Spalletti admitted after the match. “Our level must be higher. We need to raise the standard in everything we do if we want to win.”

Since his unveiling, much has changed — the team’s mood, the environment, and even expectations. Yet the results continue to reflect inconsistency. The passionate reactions that once defined Spalletti’s Juventus have faded, leaving behind a team often static both in ideas and execution.

This, however, is not a new problem. For years, Juventus have spoken of raising their level but have instead wrestled with their own limitations. Terms like “revolution” have circulated freely, yet the real transformation has never materialised. If it is to happen now, it must come through shared responsibility — not solely from Spalletti, but from the entire club structure surrounding him.

Doubts to Address

Beyond performance, Spalletti’s choices in Florence also raised eyebrows. Dusan Vlahovic’s heavy workload, the absence of Edon Zhegrova, and Weston McKennie’s unusual positioning all fuelled debate. These tactical uncertainties reflect a deeper issue — a team still without a fixed identity, constantly shifting shape and too easily slipping back into mediocrity.

The path forward, then, begins with confronting these doubts head-on. From them, Juventus must extract clarity, build cohesion, and construct the solid foundation that has for too long remained elusive. Only then can they hope to rise above the level that currently defines them.
