Juventus Close In on Antoine Beydts: The Belgian Teenager Who Could Be the Next Gem from the Low Countries

Juventus continue to invest systematically in young international talent, and their next addition looks set to come from the Netherlands. Following the recently confirmed arrival of Louis Reynaud from Toulouse, the club are now close to finalising a deal for Antoine Beydts, a left-sided defender born in 2008 who currently plays for MVV Maastricht in the Dutch second division. An official announcement could come within days.

From Belgian Academies to Dutch Professional Football

Tuttosport report how Beydts’s development path began in Belgium, where he passed through the academies of three of the country’s most respected talent-producing clubs: Genk, Anderlecht, and Standard Liège. Each gave him a different technical and tactical environment in which to develop. He subsequently moved to MVV Maastricht, who gave him his professional debut at the remarkably young age of 17 years and eight months. Last season he made five appearances for the first team, starting four of them — a significant vote of confidence from the coaching staff at such a tender age.

What Kind of Player Is He?

Beydts is a modern left-back — technically assured, comfortable in possession, and capable of contributing to build-up play through precise passing and quick combinations. Naturally left-footed, he also shows a reasonable ability with his right foot, which adds tactical flexibility. In one-on-one situations he shows personality both defensively and going forward, and his willingness to get involved in attacking phases marks him out as a full-back for the contemporary game.

The Juventus Plan: Primavera First, Then Next Gen

The club’s intention is to integrate Beydts gradually and without placing undue pressure on a player who has only just entered professional football. The initial step will be the Primavera, where he can acclimatise to Italian football and the club’s working methods. From there, progression to the Next Gen — long regarded as a crucial staging post for Juventus’s most promising prospects — will depend entirely on his performances. The club believe strongly in his potential and in the margin for improvement that still lies ahead of him.

Part of a Broader Belgian Pipeline

The signing is consistent with Juventus’s well-established strategy of recruiting young Belgian and Dutch talent. Last season alone they brought in Grelaud, De Brul, Gielen, Makiobo, and Keutgen from the Belgian market, and the successes of Samuel Mbangula and Joël Ngné Boende before them demonstrate that this pipeline has real substance. Beydts is the latest instalment in a long-term project — and, if the pattern holds, one well worth watching.
