Juventus are ready to turn the page. The word echoing through Continassa is clear: revolution. It’s being demanded by Luciano Spalletti, supported by the club, and awaited by the fans. A new era is about to take shape — one that aims to make the team more modern, aggressive and, above all, effective.
A Return to Four at the Back
Tuttosport report that the first major shift concerns the formation. Spalletti wants to bring Juventus back to a four-man defence, though carefully and without disruption. His plan is for a gradual transition, avoiding the tactical confusion that plagued previous attempts to rebuild.
The ideal structure? The 4-3-2-1 – famously known as the “Christmas tree”. This system could offer better balance and help bring out the best in individual players. According to those close to the club, Spalletti aims to have a clear, coherent tactical identity in place by Christmas, one that truly reflects his footballing philosophy.
Full-backs in Focus
The transformation begins with the full-backs. Andrea Cambiaso, who feels more comfortable on the right, will move to his natural side to be more involved in possession and build-up play. On the left, Spalletti is waiting for Jhon Lucumí Cabal to step up — a fast, intense player capable of overlapping consistently and providing crucial attacking width.
Another option is Lloyd Kelly, who has previously adapted well to aggressive defensive instructions and ball-carrying duties when used as a wide centre-back.
Central Defence Options
At the heart of defence, Pierre Kalulu currently offers the most reliable option while Gleison Bremer continues his recovery, aiming to return in time for the 7 December clash with Napoli. Behind them stand Federico Gatti and Daniele Rugani, though the arrival of a high-profile defender cannot be ruled out — a move that would certainly please Spalletti.
Midfield Balance
The most delicate issue lies in the holding midfield role. Manuel Locatelli remains the safe choice, but Spalletti is said to want a pure playmaker, someone capable of adding ideas and speed of thought to Juventus’s midfield. Fabio Miretti and Adzic are both being tested in the position, while Teun Koopmeiners continues to be seen as an ideal long-term solution if a deal becomes possible.
Alongside the deep-lying midfielder, Thuram and Weston McKennie are expected to play key roles. McKennie, in particular, stands out for his intelligent movement in the half-spaces, which will be vital in Spalletti’s new tactical approach.
Attack: Trust in the Trio
Little will change up front. Dusan Vlahovic remains the main striker, supported by two attacking midfielders rather than wingers. Spalletti has no intention of dropping either Francisco Conceição or Kenan Yildiz, both crucial to giving life to the “Christmas tree”. Meanwhile, Loïs Openda will look to regain form and earn his place after a slow start to the season.
