Juventus Eye Loftus-Cheek as Milan Push for Gatti in Possible Swap Deal

Start

Juventus have expressed an interest in AC Milan midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, seeing him as a versatile option capable of strengthening the side across multiple positions in midfield and behind the striker. However, the potential move could be complicated, as Milan are reportedly intrigued by Juventus defender Federico Gatti, raising the possibility of a swap deal — one that would be far from straightforward to finalise.

Loftus-Cheek Fits Spalletti’s Vision

Tuttosport report how manager Luciano Spalletti has reportedly asked the club’s hierarchy for a dynamic midfielder who can contribute in various areas of the pitch, someone with the physicality and versatility of Weston McKennie. Loftus-Cheek fits that description perfectly. The Englishman, who turns 30 on 23 January, remains eager to secure more playing time as he aims to relaunch his international hopes ahead of the next World Cup — a goal that will require consistent performances at club level.

Previously appreciated by Spalletti during his time at Napoli, Loftus-Cheek is well regarded for his balance between technique and power, attributes that could suit Juventus’ midfield structure. Having recently rejected an offer from Lazio, the Milan player continues to assess options that would guarantee him a larger role.

Where Loftus-Cheek Could Play for Juventus

The former Chelsea man would bring tactical variety to Juventus. He can operate in central midfield, on the right side of a 4-2-3-1, or even as an attacking midfielder behind the forward — a role recently occupied by Fabio Miretti against Sassuolo. His athletic profile aligns with Juventus’ aim to add more energy and presence in central areas.

Gatti’s Situation Remains Unclear

Despite Milan’s admiration for Gatti, Juventus’ stance remains cautious. The defender is currently sidelined with an injury, and his absence has already highlighted the team’s lack of depth at the back. For this reason, the Bianconeri are unlikely to let him leave in January. Any discussion regarding his future is expected to take place only at the end of the season.

Sources close to the situation suggest that Gatti would welcome another opportunity to work under Massimiliano Allegri, yet a mid-season departure looks improbable. Milan are understood to have already tested the waters with an initial proposal involving Koni De Winter, but Juventus swiftly turned it down.
