Tonali

Juventus Keep Dream of Tonali Alive Despite Newcastle Deal

Start

Juventus continue to nurture the ambition of bringing Sandro Tonali back to Italy, despite his long-term commitment to Newcastle United. Calciomercato report how the Italian midfielder, once the heartbeat of AC Milan’s midfield, remains a dream signing for the Bianconeri, who see him as a potential cornerstone in their future plans.

Tonali’s Situation at Newcastle

Tonali joined Newcastle in the summer of 2023 in a record deal worth 59 million euros plus bonuses and a future resale percentage. His contract with the Premier League side runs until June 2028, guaranteeing him 7 million euros net per season, with the potential to rise to 9 million through bonuses. After serving a ten-month betting suspension between October 2023 and August 2024, during which time he accepted a reduced salary, Tonali has since reestablished himself as a key figure at St James’ Park. To date, he has made 60 appearances with 7 goals, 3 assists, and 9 yellow cards in his Newcastle career.

Juventus’ Financial Room

Currently, the highest-paid Juventus player is Dusan Vlahovic, earning 12 million euros annually. However, with his contract expiring at the end of the season and renewal talks stalling, the likelihood of Vlahovic leaving on a free transfer appears increasingly strong. Should that scenario unfold, Juventus would gain significant financial flexibility, both in terms of transfers and wages, potentially opening the way for a serious attempt to sign Tonali.

A Midfield Dream for Tudor

Coach Igor Tudor would have no difficulty accommodating Tonali in his squad. Pairing the Italian international with Khephren Thuram at the heart of midfield could create one of the most powerful midfield duos in Europe, blending physicality with vision. While such a partnership remains hypothetical, it underlines why Juventus continue to view Tonali as a long-term goal.

Present vs Future

For now, Tonali is focused on his commitments with both Newcastle and the Italian national team. With Italy, he is preparing for his 27th appearance in tonight’s clash against Israel, lining up alongside Juventus’ Manuel Locatelli and Inter’s Nicolò Barella. Meanwhile, his club schedule in England includes a Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton followed by a high-profile Champions League showdown with Barcelona, another club reportedly interested in him.

While Juventus’ hopes of signing Tonali were not realized this past summer, the situation could evolve for the 2026/27 season. The Bianconeri continue to keep the door open, nurturing the dream of once again seeing Tonali orchestrate play in Serie A.
