Luciano Spalletti and Juventus have already reached a broad agreement over a contract renewal, with only the final details left to be ironed out. The deal is now very close, with the official confirmation potentially arriving before Easter, as the Bianconeri move to secure the future of the coach who has led their recent revival.
The decisive day could be tomorrow, when Giorgio Chiellini – the key figure in the negotiations – returns to Turin after engagements abroad and in Rome. His presence should help close the final gaps and bring the talks to a conclusion.
Promises and Project for Spalletti
The upcoming meeting is expected to be brief, as Spalletti’s main focus remains on the pitch and, in particular, on Saturday’s match against Sassuolo. During the international break, the parties will then look to formalise everything, but there is already a clear unity of intent between coach and club.
Juventus have assured Spalletti of a transfer market in line with his ambitions, especially in the event of Champions League qualification. The plan is to raise the level of the squad in all areas, providing the coach with a team capable of competing at the highest level both domestically and in Europe.
Pay Rise on the Table
According to reports from Tuttosport, the latest talks have also covered the economic side of the agreement. The current contract includes a clause for an automatic renewal in case of qualification for the Champions League, which would allow Juventus to extend the deal unilaterally. When Spalletti signed at the end of October, his salary was set at 5 million euros net per season.
The club, however, are prepared to increase that figure to around 6 million euros per year. This adjustment would make Spalletti the second-highest paid coach in Serie A, behind Antonio Conte and ahead of Massimiliano Allegri and Gian Piero Gasperini, both on 5 million.
Recognition for Work Done
This pay rise is seen as a way of recognising and rewarding the work Spalletti has done in recent months. His impact on the team has been significant, and the board are keen to reflect that on a financial level, even if the coach has never considered money the decisive factor in agreeing to sign.
With the framework of the agreement already in place and only formalities remaining, it now appears to be just a matter of time before the renewal is made official.
