Juventus Reopen Continassa Gates for New Season: David and Conceicao Absent

Juventus closed the 2024/25 season with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the Club World Cup round of 16 in Miami. This respectable loss ended a tumultuous season marked by inconsistent results and the shocking dismissal of Thiago Motta just 10 months after he took charge, with Igor Tudor stepping in as head coach.

Now, just three weeks after the season ended, it’s time to get back to work. On the morning of July 24th, the gates of Juventus’ training ground at Continassa reopened, officially kicking off preparations for the 2025/26 season under Tudor’s full-time leadership. The club embarks on a new chapter, facing the challenge of competing in Serie A, the Coppa Italia, and the Champions League.

Some players returned to training ahead of the official start date, including Bremer, who, after working with the team in the United States, is closing in on a return to full fitness. Others nursing injuries—such as Cabal, Savona, Kelly, and Milik—were also present in varied stages of recovery. Goalkeeper Perin and midfielder Miretti began work as well, although their futures are uncertain, with Perin seeking more playing time elsewhere and Miretti attracting interest from Napoli after a successful loan at Genoa.

Several players deemed surplus to requirements also joined training, such as Tiago Djaló, whose loan spell at Porto ended poorly; Arthur, returning from Girona; and Facundo Gonzalez, recently with Feyenoord. Unlike last season’s approach under Motta, these players will train alongside the main squad, awaiting their next moves.

Notably absent from the first day were Juventus’ two new summer signings: Canadian forward Jonathan David and Portuguese winger Francisco Conceicao. There is no cause for concern, however. David, signed on a free transfer after his time at Lille, is completing final bureaucratic formalities and is expected to be available by Friday. Conceicao, acquired permanently from Porto, was granted a short extension of his vacation as part of an agreed plan.

Joao Mario, another new arrival from Porto, completed his medicals and signed his contract ahead of schedule and will be fully available to Tudor.

With official preparations underway, Juventus will face a demanding schedule with a minimum of 47 fixtures across all competitions. The preseason will begin with intensive physical training balanced by ball work, aiming to build fitness and tactical cohesion. Juventus’ first friendly is set for August 2nd against Reggiana at the Juventus Training Center, followed by a training camp and matches against Borussia Dortmund, Juventus Next Gen, and Atalanta as final warm-ups before the Serie A season launches in late August.
