Juventus-Atalanta matches have always been about more than just the game on the pitch. They’ve become a stage for potential transfer dealings, as evidenced by past moves involving players like Juan Cuadrado and Teun Koopmeiners. Now, it seems another Atalanta star has caught the Old Lady’s eye: Brazilian midfielder Ederson.

According to recent reports from Tuttosport, Juventus’ sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli met with Atalanta’s Tony D’Amico for dinner in Bergamo in mid-January. During this meeting, Giuntoli expressed interest not only in Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman but also in Ederson, a long-standing target for the Turin club.

Juventus had previously explored the possibility of signing Ederson a year ago, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Atalanta’s resolve was evident when they rejected a substantial offer of around 40 million euros from a Premier League club last summer, determined to retain their prized asset.

However, the landscape may shift in the upcoming transfer window. If a significant offer arrives, Atalanta might be more inclined to part ways with the Brazilian gem. Juventus faces stiff competition, particularly from English giants Manchester City and Manchester United, who have already begun preliminary inquiries.

Ederson’s journey to stardom is noteworthy. Italian director Walter Sabatini discovered him at Fortaleza, bringing him to Europe with Salernitana for 6.5 million euros. His rapid development led to a move to Atalanta for 14 million euros plus Matteo Lovato’s transfer rights.

Juventus’ interest in Ederson stems from his versatility as a complete midfielder, excelling in both defensive and offensive roles. The prospect of pairing him with Khephren Thuram in midfield is an enticing one for the Bianconeri.

As Juventus prepare to host Atalanta at the Allianz Stadium, fans will get a first-hand look at Ederson’s capabilities. This season, the 26-year-old has been a cornerstone for Atalanta, featuring in 39 matches across all competitions, contributing four goals and two assists in over 3,100 minutes of play.

While Juventus hopes to limit Ederson’s impact in their upcoming clash, they’re clearly envisioning a future where his talents could be harnessed for their own ambitions. The summer transfer window promises to be an intriguing battle for the Brazilian’s signature, with Juventus aiming to outmanoeuvre their Premier League rivals in securing one of Serie A’s most coveted midfielders.
