Juventus Set Sights on Xhaka for Midfield Reinforcement

After last summer’s overhaul in midfield failed to deliver the expected results, Juventus are once again preparing to reshape this crucial area of the squad. With Douglas Luiz likely heading back to the Premier League, sporting director Damien Comolli is actively exploring new options to strengthen the team. The latest idea emerging from Turin is Granit Xhaka of Bayer Leverkusen, a move that could bring both experience and reliability to Juventus.

Xhaka: The Profile Juventus Wants

La Gazzetta dello Sport report (as quoted by IlBianconero)  how Granit Xhaka is far from an unknown quantity or a gamble. The Swiss international has been a consistent performer at the highest levels, and his name has recently been linked with AC Milan and Roma, though those trails have cooled. Juventus now sees Xhaka as the ideal candidate—an adaptable, experienced midfielder who can elevate the quality of those around him. His leadership and tactical intelligence make him a natural fit for the demands of Serie A and for a team aiming to return to the top.

The Cost of Bringing Xhaka to Turin

Xhaka, who will turn 33 in September, appears ready for a new chapter in his career. Bayer Leverkusen, especially after the departure of coach Xabi Alonso, is not expected to stand in his way if he chooses to leave. Given his age and contract situation, the transfer fee is expected to be relatively modest—reports suggest that an offer in the region of 12 to 15 million euros could be enough to secure his signature. Xhaka himself is reportedly open to a move and intrigued by the opportunity to play in Italy for the first time.

Other Midfield Options Under Consideration

While Xhaka is the latest and perhaps most realistic target, Juventus is also evaluating several other midfielders. The club has been monitoring Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester, Yves Bissouma of Tottenham—whose relationship with Comolli could facilitate negotiations—Florentino Luis of Benfica, and Morten Hjulmand of Sporting Lisbon, though the latter would command a higher fee. No formal negotiations have started yet, as Juventus remains in the assessment phase, but Xhaka’s profile is quickly rising to the top of the shortlist.
