Lele Adani Criticizes Pressure on Thiago Motta and Juventus’ Scudetto Expectations

Former defender and current football pundit Lele Adani has weighed in on the situation at Juventus following their crushing 4-0 defeat to Atalanta. Speaking during La Domenica Sportiva (as quoted by Calciomercato), Adani criticized the unrealistic expectations placed on coach Thiago Motta and the team, calling the pressure to compete for the Serie A title “inconceivable.”

“Juventus was never truly in a position to win the Scudetto,” Adani remarked. “How is it possible to create such expectations only to tear everything down after one defeat? Even if Juventus had beaten Atalanta, that match alone wouldn’t have justified an overall positive evaluation of their season or their chances of winning the title.”

Adani went on to highlight what he sees as a flawed narrative surrounding Motta’s tenure: “Perhaps only 10% of those in the football world see Thiago Motta’s work as positive. Yet, he was misled into believing he could win the Scudetto, and undue pressure was placed on him. Let’s be realistic—teams like Inter and Napoli are ahead of Juventus. We need balanced evaluations!”

He also criticized the inconsistency in how Juventus’ progress is assessed: “At the start of the season, even those who might have dreamed of a Scudetto would have realized it wasn’t achievable. After just a few victories, I find it inconceivable that anyone could put pressure on the team to win the league. You cannot push for a championship after such an underwhelming campaign under Thiago Motta. It feels like every week swings between ‘dream’ and ‘disappointment,’ without any comprehensive evaluation of their journey since the beginning of the season.”
