Matías Soulé: “Allegri Among the Best – He Made Me Cut My Hair”

Matías Soulé has spoken candidly about his time at Juventus and his relationship with Massimiliano Allegri in an interview with Il Messaggero (as quoted by ilbianconero) . The young Argentine forward also touched on his international future and the coaches who have helped shape his career.

“I feel Argentine, I am Argentine,” Soulé declared. “I told that to Spalletti as well, and I thank him. Maybe my agent was a bit upset when he saw Scaloni’s call-ups, but I truly appreciate the interest of such a historic national team. Still, I want to play for the country where I was born.”

Reflecting on his experience under Allegri at Juventus, Soulé spoke with admiration mixed with humour. “Allegri always kept me in mind, even though I didn’t play much. He gives you complete freedom in attack, just like the top managers — Ranieri, Di Francesco, Gasperini — but if you make a tactical mistake, he loses his mind. Di Francesco and Gasperini are quite similar; their focus on the defensive phase is absolute.”

The winger also recalled a memorable moment with the former Juventus coach. “At Juventus, I had grown my hair out and dyed it blonde. The next day, he told me I had to cut my hair — otherwise, I shouldn’t bother showing up again. I was just a kid back then, so as soon as training ended, I ran straight to the barber.”

Now continuing his growth in Serie A, Soulé is enjoying the start to his season. “I’m happy with how the campaign has begun. We know there’s still a lot to improve, but we’re adapting to what Gasperini wants. I feel a lot of confidence now — something I first started feeling with Ranieri. Thanks to him, I found my calm again. He used to see me in training, with the ball at my feet, and tell me, ‘Go for another run.’ Then he pulled me aside and told me to keep things simple. He gave me peace of mind and belief.”
