Atlético Madrid’s Nico González was forced to leave the pitch early in the clash against Girona after picking up a muscular injury midway through the first half.
The Argentine winger, formerly of Juventus, pulled up in the 25th minute while sprinting down the flank in pursuit of a long ball. He immediately felt a sharp pain in the back of his leg, began limping, and then sat down on the turf, signalling to the bench that he could not continue.
Manager Diego Simeone reacted swiftly, making an early substitution as Conor Gallagher came on to replace the injured González.
Further assessment will determine the extent of the problem, but early indications suggest a muscle-related issue that could sideline the 27-year-old for the coming fixtures.
