As Juventus prepare to face Atalanta in a pivotal Serie A match, former midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi shared his insights on the upcoming clash and the current state of both teams. Speaking to TikiTacco, Tacchinardi emphasized the importance of this fixture for Juventus’ season and offered his thoughts on key players and tactical considerations.
Tacchinardi began by expressing his gratitude towards Atalanta, where he started his career. “I’ll never stop thanking Atalanta. They made me grow up,” he said, highlighting the shared values between Atalanta and Juventus: “Little showboating, little drama. I’m honored to have been part of these two clubs.”
The former midfielder praised Renato Veiga, describing him as “a great player” with the potential to be “the real leader, the real driving force” for Juventus. He also commended Federico Gatti’s recent performances but noted the return of Pierre Kalulu could shake up the defensive lineup.
Tacchinardi expressed his admiration for Khephren Thuram, calling him “sensational and sensationally effective.” He stressed the importance of having Thuram on the field for this crucial match.
Regarding Atalanta’s current form, Tacchinardi observed, “If they’re usually flying in the second half of the season, this time less so.” He suggested that Atalanta might be operating at around 75% of their potential, making it “the best time to face them.”
As for Juventus, Tacchinardi noted, “Juventus keeps winning. Beating them and extending the streak gives you self-esteem that can change the season.”
Tacchinardi emphasized the significance of this game for Juventus’ season: “I’m convinced it will be the match of the season. If you win, scenarios open up.” He urged the team to approach the game with maximum intensity, stating, “Juventus can’t not go into this all guns blazing.”
Discussing manager Thiago Motta, Tacchinardi praised his recent self-criticism and the team’s unity. He noted a change in Motta’s approach, particularly in his handling of players like Teun Koopmeiners.
Tacchinardi stressed the importance of mentality, saying, “The magic word is personality. If Koop shows he has personality, he’s Juventus material. If not, he’s not Juventus material.”
With 11 matches left in the season, Tacchinardi advised against experimentation: “No more experiments. There are 11 games left, and you have to play for your life.”
He concluded by urging the team to seize the opportunity before them: “If I were a Juventus player, I’d say: the press has massacred us and we deserved it, but we have a chance that doesn’t come around often. Certain players should speak up. I don’t know if they have this in them.”
