“Now Juventus Has Claws, Not Just the Foil” — Moggi on Juve’s Resilience and Thuram’s Impact

Luciano Moggi, the iconic former Juventus director known for shaping the club’s success from 1994 to 2006, has spoken candidly about Juventus’ thrilling 4-3 victory over Inter Milan. In an exclusive interview with TuttoJuve.com, Moggi praised the team’s character, resilience and the fresh fighting spirit instilled by coach Igor Tudor, while also offering reflections on Khephren Thuram and the extraordinary coincidence involving rising star Vasilije Adzic.

Embracing the Team’s Fighting Spirit

Discussing the narrow win, Moggi highlighted Juventus’ change in mentality.

“Talking about this 4-3 is very enjoyable, but now the only thing left is to keep going like this,” he said. He stressed the importance of the team’s collective effort: “The side on the pitch gives everything, which didn’t happen before, and that way you can even cover for some errors in formation. Juventus is now tied first with Napoli.”

From a managerial perspective, Moggi takes a balanced view.

“When you win games like this, you still have to analyse the match. That goal at 4-3 came from Sommer’s mistake. The shot was completely saveable,” he said, acknowledging some luck but insisting that victory rewards perseverance. “Juventus, when down 2-3, didn’t lose heart and were rewarded for their desire to turn it around. They tried and succeeded. I want to congratulate Igor Tudor and his very capable players.”

On Inter’s Performance

Moggi observed that fatigue was a factor for Inter’s key figures.

“I saw Inter’s best men tired, but I predicted this because of the World Cup in America. I’m no clairvoyant, but players like Barella, Lautaro and Sommer — who could have saved at least two of those goals — aren’t machines.”

The Importance of Character and Tudor’s Influence

Emphasising character as a decisive element, Moggi said,

“I expected they could overturn the score. I liked them when they were behind; they never gave up and showed great character. Igor deserves credit here.” He contrasted Tudor’s tenure with the previous era: “This squad with Motta played with a foil, now they come out with claws and sweat the shirt until the end. That’s a certainty.”

Is Tudor the Man to Revive Juve?

Asked if Tudor is the right man to restart Juventus’ golden cycle, Moggi was cautiously optimistic:

“I can’t say for sure. The environment isn’t easy and one defeat could bring morale down. They have to keep working. Igor Tudor, who worked with me for many years, knows Juventus well and understands how to keep concentration high. He will never give an inch.”

Moments with Thuram’s Family and Teaching Values

Moggi also shared a personal moment:

“Yesterday, I had a lovely lunch with the Thuram family, who are friends. Lilian Thuram’s values as a person outweigh even his career on the pitch. He knows how to teach his boys the meaning of life, which isn’t about privileged elites but about humble people working hard every day to succeed without ever taking anything for granted.”

The Remarkable Coincidence of Adzic’s Birthdate

Finishing with a light note, Moggi remarked on the extraordinary coincidence about Vasilije Adzic, the young Juventus star who scored the matchwinner:

“It’s just a coincidence that he was born on 12 May 2006, the dawn of Calciopoli. The important thing now is to talk about this boy, who hasn’t yet developed physically but can still do important things.”
