Pjanić: “Few Managers Are as Good as Spalletti – I’d Bet on Tonali for Juventus”

Miralem Pjanić knows both Juventus and Luciano Spalletti extremely well, and the Bosnian midfielder shared his thoughts about them in an interview with Tuttosport. Having played under Spalletti during his time at Roma and spent four successful seasons in Turin, Pjanić offered a unique perspective on the Bianconeri’s progress, the team’s resurgence, and the qualities they still need to take the next step.

“Spalletti Makes the Difference”

“The rise of Juventus in the league hasn’t surprised me at all,” Pjanić said. “In fact, I expected it when Spalletti arrived. Luciano at this level is a guarantee. There are very few managers as good as him. He makes the difference.”

The former midfielder praised Juventus’ steady progress under the new coach, highlighting the club’s growing confidence and stability.

“Thanks to Spalletti’s work, Juventus are growing and improving match after match,” he added. “They mustn’t set any limits for themselves. The table is quite tight, and all the big teams are close together. When you’re at Juve, you always have to aim for the top.”

Praise for Yıldız and a Midfield Suggestion

Pjanić also spoke highly of Kenan Yıldız, the young Turkish forward who has become one of Juve’s standout performers this season.
“Kenan is really talented,” he said. “He’s becoming a great player and has everything needed to become a champion. He has class and skill — I like him a lot.”

Asked where Juventus could still improve, Pjanić smiled: “Maybe they need something more in midfield. A Pjanić could help (laughs). If I were part of the management, I wouldn’t hesitate — I’d go straight for Sandro Tonali. He’s a fantastic player and would be the perfect addition. This Juventus are missing someone like him in the middle of the pitch. Tonali has power, temperament, vision, and he knows how to dictate play. Bringing him back to Italy would be a huge move.”

Allegri, Fatherhood and the Future

Pjanić also addressed fans who still dream of his return to Turin. “I’ve read about it (smiles), but I’ve retired now. I’m enjoying life as a dad and spending time with my little one.”

Now settled in Dubai, the former Juventus star seems content with his post-playing life. “I’ve lived in Dubai for three years and I’m really happy here. It’s a beautiful city, and they’re doing amazing things in every field. The World Sports Summit shows that perfectly. What will I do next? Honestly, I haven’t decided yet. I’ll take my time — there’s no rush. Will I return to Italy? I hope to visit soon, to see some friends and former teammates. I’d also love to go and watch Juve at the stadium.”

Before concluding, Pjanić shared his view on Massimiliano Allegri’s current spell at AC Milan: “I was sure he’d do well. Allegri is a guarantee for any team aiming high. He knows how to make his players feel confident and get the best out of them. He’s a great manager, and whoever has him should keep him close. Did Juventus let him go? After eight years, maybe that cycle in Turin had naturally come to an end. But Max’s value is never in doubt. And now, with Spalletti, Juventus are in very good hands.”
