Atalanta delivered a resounding victory over Juventus, dismantling the Turin side 4-0 in a crucial battle for third place in Serie A. Goals from Mateo Retegui, Marten de Roon, Davide Zappacosta, and Ademola Lookman sealed the triumph at the Allianz Stadium, marking a historic night for Gian Piero Gasperini’s team.

The match began with both teams missing key players due to injuries. Juventus struggled without Francisco Conceicao, Douglas Luiz, and Arek Milik, while Atalanta coped with absences like Stefan Posch and Giorgio Scalvini. Despite these setbacks, the visitors dominated from the outset. Retegui opened the scoring in the 29th minute with a penalty after Weston McKennie handled the ball in the box. The Italian striker’s composed finish gave Atalanta an early lead.

Juventus failed to respond effectively, and their woes deepened immediately after halftime. De Roon capitalized on a defensive error by Lloyd Kelly to double Atalanta’s advantage. The visitors maintained their relentless pressure, with Zappacosta adding a third goal after a brilliant backheel assist from Sead Kolasinac. Lookman rounded off the rout in the 77th minute when his deflected strike wrong-footed goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio.

Juventus had few opportunities to salvage pride, with McKennie coming closest to scoring. However, Marco Carnesecchi denied him with an outstanding save to preserve Atalanta’s clean sheet. As frustration mounted, many home fans left the stadium before full-time.

This emphatic win solidified Atalanta’s third-place position and brought them within three points of league leaders Inter Milan. Meanwhile, Juventus remained fourth but now trail Atalanta by six points, leaving their title hopes in jeopardy.
