Spalletti Comes Down Hard on Juventus After Galatasaray Collapse: “No More Excuses”

The aftermath of Juventus’ 5–2 humiliation in Istanbul has left the club reeling, with manager Luciano Spalletti delivering a blunt and uncompromising message to his players. According to La Stampa, the coach met the squad the following day in Turin with a stern warning: talking means nothing without results.

The defeat to Galatasaray, Juventus’ second-heaviest European loss in history after the 7–0 thrashing by Wiener Sport-Club in 1958–59, has shaken both the dressing room and the technical staff. Spalletti, usually composed in public, was reportedly terse and visibly unsettled, telling his players that it was time for self-reflection and accountability. “It’s useless to talk if actions don’t follow,” was the sentiment attributed to him in the report.

The tone marked a turning point. After weeks of trying to shield the team amid mixed results — including losses to Inter and Atalanta and a draw with Lazio — Spalletti appears ready to overhaul both tactics and mentality. The coach is said to be considering a shift back to a three-man defence and a more compact midfield, focusing less on stylish possession play and more on efficiency and defensive solidity.

The “Spallettismo” model — characterised by high pressing and quick vertical transitions — has struggled without a natural striker like Dušan Vlahović, leading to imbalances across the pitch. The statistics paint a stark picture: 13 goals conceded in just four matches suggest deep structural and psychological issues.

Several players have also come under scrutiny. Kenan Yıldız, Francisco Conceição, Khéphren Thuram, and Andrea Cambiaso are believed to be among those expected to show greater intensity and responsibility on both sides of the ball. Meanwhile, questions are beginning to surface around Spalletti’s own future. His contract renewal, once expected to be a formality, now seems uncertain. The message from all sides is clear: progress must come through results, not excuses.
