Juventus’s goalkeeper search is heading into its most creative phase yet. With Emiliano Martínez now definitively blocked by Aston Villa, and with Zion Suzuki in the process of being signed by Paris Saint-Germain from Parma, a genuinely novel formula has been floated: Juventus asking PSG to immediately loan them Suzuki for the season ahead — a triangle of clubs that would satisfy everyone involved.
The State of Play — Vicario Is Reserved, but Not Certain
Calciomercato confirms the current situation clearly. Juventus have reserved Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham on a loan with a right to purchase at approximately €15 million — but the reservation does not yet constitute a firm agreement. Spalletti still harbours reservations about the Italian international, and those doubts are the reason the search has not been closed.
A meeting between the Juventus directors and Michele Di Gregorio’s agent is also planned for the coming days — focused primarily on facilitating the incumbent goalkeeper’s departure rather than any reversal of the decision to replace him.
Why a PSG Loan for Suzuki Makes Sense
The logic is elegantly triangular. PSG are close to completing Suzuki’s permanent purchase from Parma — reportedly for around €30 million — making him their long-term goalkeeping investment. However, Suzuki will not be first choice at the Parc des Princes in year one, where an established starting goalkeeper already holds the position. Spending €30 million to have a player sit on the bench serves nobody’s interests.
A loan to Juventus for a season would give Suzuki exactly what he needs — regular Serie A and Europa League football — whilst PSG retain full ownership and receive a loan fee for the privilege. For Juventus, the structure would significantly reduce the financial impact compared to a direct purchase, placing a goalkeeper Spalletti himself has described as appealing to him “enormously” between the posts without the capital outlay that made the direct pursuit through Parma impossible.
The Question That Determines Everything
Whether PSG, having just invested €30 million in acquiring the player, would be willing to immediately loan him out before he has kicked a single ball in their colours is the central unknown. For Carnevali and Massara, it is worth asking. For Spalletti, who described Suzuki as “prohibitively expensive” to buy but holds him in the highest regard as a goalkeeper, the prospect of landing him at loan cost would resolve one of the summer’s longest-running dilemmas in the most satisfying possible way.
