On the day Igor Tudor officially extended his contract with Juventus until 2027, new details emerged about the club’s recent managerial search. Tudor, who arrived in March and secured Champions League qualification on the final day of Serie A, has been praised for steering the team through a challenging period and providing strong direction for the future, as highlighted by general manager Damien Comolli.
However, Juventus faced a turbulent moment earlier this year following the dismissal of Thiago Motta and the subsequent appointment of Tudor. During those uncertain days, Roberto Mancini’s name also surfaced as a potential candidate for the Juventus bench. The former Italy national team coach has now confirmed, in an interview with Il Giorno, that he was indeed approached by the club.
“There was contact with Juventus, it’s true. I will wait,” Mancini revealed (as quoted by IlBianconero) . Addressing speculation about a possible return to coaching a national team, he added, “National team? No one has called me. I am still disappointed about what happened, but I don’t know what might happen. I don’t think my name is among the candidates.”
When asked about Gennaro Gattuso and the situation at Coverciano, Mancini responded, “Gattuso? I don’t like to talk about other colleagues. I am sorry for the situation that has developed, because breathing the air at Coverciano is always wonderful.”
