Tonali

Vlahovic (and Another?) for Tonali: Juventus Dreams of a Super Deal

Juventus are considering a bold and complex transfer operation aimed at bringing Sandro Tonali to Turin, widely regarded by the club’s key figures — from Giorgio Chiellini to Damien Comolli and coach Igor Tudor — as the perfect midfielder to address their central midfield issues and elevate the team’s overall quality.

The Italian international, currently at Newcastle, is regarded as indispensable by the English club, who paid a significant fee estimated around €60-70 million in 2023. Newcastle are enjoying Tonali’s impact, especially after his initial suspension period, and see him as a cornerstone for their future, particularly with upcoming Champions League years on the horizon.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Juventus’ strategy involves offering Dusan Vlahovic to Newcastle as part of a deal to acquire Tonali. This move aims not only to end the drawn-out summer saga involving Vlahovic but also to leverage Newcastle’s urgent need for an attacking striker following the sale of Alexander Isak to Liverpool. Vlahovic’s availability has recently been floated by intermediaries, opening doors for Juventus to propose a significant exchange.

However, this would not be a straightforward player swap given the high values involved. Juventus are planning a more intricate negotiation that could also include either Douglas Luiz or Nicolò Savona, possibly alongside financial adjustments, to appease Newcastle’s valuation demands and squad requirements.

Despite Tonali being Juventus’ top target, the club is also exploring alternatives to strengthen midfield. Prospective candidates under evaluation include Morten Hjulmand, Yves Bissouma, Matt O’Riley, and Franck Kessie. Additionally, Roma’s Bryan Cristante has emerged as a potential option, possibly involving a swap deal that sends Weston McKennie in the opposite direction.
